The Head of the Compliance Department at We Care International is a senior-level executive responsible for overseeing and ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies. The individual plays a crucial role in researching, establishing, maintaining, and ensuring the culture of ethical conduct and accountability is adhered to within the organization.<\/p>\n

The Head of the Compliance Department reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The individual collaborates closely with the board and senior management and works cross-functionally with various departments to ensure compliance across all areas of the organization.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Responsibilities:<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Develop, construct, and implement a comprehensive compliance program tailored to We Care International’s needs, including establishing policies, procedures, and controls to ensure members and the organization adhere to legal and regulatory requirements.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Monitor the organization’s activities to identify and assess compliance risks. Conduct regular and periodic audits and reviews to ensure compliance with policies and procedures. Prepare and submit reports to senior management and the Board of Directors as required.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Develop and deliver compliance training programs to educate members, volunteers, and employees on their responsibilities and obligations. Promote awareness of compliance issues and foster a culture of compliance throughout the organization.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Develop and update policies and procedures to reflect laws, regulations, and best practice changes. Ensure effective communication and implementation of policies across the organization.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
A periodic risk assessment is conducted to identify potential compliance risks, and the individual will develop, analyze, and implement risk mitigation strategies and controls to minimize exposure to legal, financial, and reputational risks.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Stay current with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards applicable to the organization. Monitor changes in regulatory requirements and assess their impact on the organization’s operations. Ensure timely compliance with reporting obligations and licensing requirements.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Develop and oversee an ethics program that promotes ethical behavior and integrity within the organization. Establish and manage a whistleblower program to encourage the reporting of potential compliance violations.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Conduct or oversee internal investigations into allegations of non-compliance or unethical behavior. Ensure investigations are conducted impartially, thoroughly, and by applicable laws and policies.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Interact with regulatory authorities, auditors, and other external stakeholders on compliance matters. Stay informed about industry trends and participate in relevant forums or associations to stay updated on compliance best practices.<\/p>\n

To excel in this role, the individual should possess the following qualifications:<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n
A bachelor’s and\/or master’s degree in law, business administration, or a related field is required. Extensive experience in compliance, legal, or risk management roles, preferably within the nonprofit sector or charity organizations, is highly desirable.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Strong knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards relevant to the organization’s operations. Familiarity with compliance frameworks and best practices, such as the CANADA \u2013 Corruption of Foreign Public Officials Act (“CFPOA”), Canada Revenue Agency (“CRA”), Public Policy Dialogue and Development Activities (“PPDDA”), U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), anti-money laundering (AML) regulations, and data protection laws.<\/p>\n
